I am a BAR lover! I will just be honest! Love them! BUT – I have learned A LOT over the past years. I used to select granola bars and protein bars, eating them daily, thinking they were a healthy snack – but really they were just glorified chocolate bars full of sugar! Marketing is tricky – it gets us! It makes us THINK these things are healthy snacks. I have learned a lot since than though. NOT all snack bars are made the same. In fact — MOST of them are NOT GOOD! So I caution you – please read labels, education yourself, and do your research.
I have found bars that are CLOSE to being a healthy option – but they are typically lacking still in one area. I really look at the ingredients, the sugar content, the fiber content, and the protein content. I want REAL, natural ingredients. LOW sugar (and this is a tricky one). MOST low sugar bars are loaded with artificial zero sugar sweeteners that just make you crave MORE sweets – they are deadly! So I want NATURAL sugar and a low amount of it. I also want fiber for good digestion health and protein to keep me full. I also want it to be low glycemic. I have blood sugar issues so anything that spikes my blood sugar – not good! It makes me crash so hard and feel tired. This healthy snack will give you long lasting energy because it is a low glycemic index food means it is slow digesting (which is what you want) and will not spike your blood sugar.
SO – when a company whose products I use already came out with a BAR – aka the BEACHBAR – I dove in hard! I did a ton of research and tested them myself. And let me tell ya – they surprisingly blew me away which I didn’t expect, because creating a bar that meets all these guidelines is NOT easy to do!
After my research – I feel great about these bars as a healthy snack and will personally be ordering them monthly. My favourite flavour was peanut butter chocolate – but I surprisingly ended up really enjoying cherry chocolate as well which I did not expect. I started with a first time order of 3 boxes (best deal) – and then I will most likely go to receiving 1-2 boxes/month on autoship which is just easier for Steve and I so we always have a healthy snack on hand.
